Mission Field Update: A History of Macau China

Many people do not know the history of the land we bought a few years back and the building that our church is now meeting in. It goes back to 1908 when John and Lilian Galloway began serving the Lord in Macau. You can Google “John and Lilian Galloway” and find the book called, (“Like A Tree Planted By Streams of Water,”) which was recently written about the ministry they had with the Southern Baptist Mission in this city.

The house they built in 1925 to live in, and I’m sure ministered to many in their home, is now our church and retreat center. It has a wonderful legacy and we are honored to continue the work they began many years ago. You will be blessed by reading the book and understanding a wee bit of the history of this city and the work that John and Lilian Galloway did, along with the other dedicated Baptist missionaries.

In due course, we plan to have an elderly center built just next to our church (the Galloway home). There is a great need in Macau for the 44,000 people over the age of 65 years old. Although we are now waiting to get the name on the land deed changed into Christians In Action’s name before we can actually begin building the home. Once the name is changed on the deed, we can begin the procedures for building the home. We ask for your prayers in this matter.

We also have a children’s daycare center, about a five-minute walk from our church grounds. It’s a non-profit work, which the Macau government has been supporting for the past 24 years with 70 percent of the monthly expenditures. Our main purpose is to bring the children and families to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Come July 3rd of this year will be 24 years we’ve been in operation.

On the attachment is a photo of our children in the daycare center, along with our four staff members. Also on the attachment is a recent photo of a Bible study we have in one of our church member’s homes.

We ask for your prayers for Suzanna and me and the entire work in Macau as we lead the church, the daycare center, and eventually as we begin the process of building the elderly home. Thank you so much for caring and praying!

In closing, we would like to leave you with a quote from Napoleon Bonaparte. ” Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I founded great empires. But on what did we rest the creation of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ alone founded His empire upon love, and at this hour millions of men would die for Him.”

May God continue to bless, protect and keep each one of you in His loving care!

In His great love,
John & Suzanna
